The Singles
"The Nickel Song" written by Melanie Sofka, seemed perfect for poking election year fun at politics at large. You don't have to be on one side or the other to see what a circus it has become. A song about gambling on how we're all going to vote, contribute, play the game... but nobody is really trying to solve the problems either. Another tongue in cheek look at where this humans race is racing off to.
Since deciding that I do not want to make another full album until I make a live one, I have been digging deep for songs that convey my malaise with religion and politics. This one seemed an obvious choice, as it has a nice groove and has always been a fav of the general public. My husband asked me why I recorded it, wasn't it contrary to the ideas in "& The Other"? Immediately I thought of Ringo Starr when asked if The Beatles were Mods or Rockers, He said "I'm a Mocker". Let's face it, his name is Greenbaum, was Spirit in the Sky EVER a serious song?
For me it was a fun, tongue in cheek way of saying let's have some fun with it.
